November to March the range closes at 16:00 daily with the light. Call ahead after heavy snow, because the road is ploughed but the bays may need clearing.
About Northwoods Range & Retreat
Northwoods sits on fifty acres of birch and pine north of Duluth, with separate bays for rifle out to two hundred yards, pistol at twenty-five, and a shotgun field for trap. The bays are far enough apart that a rifle class and a beginner pistol lesson can run at the same time without either getting in the other's way.
The range stays open through the Minnesota winter. Firing points on the pistol and rifle lines are enclosed on three sides and heated, and the access road is ploughed. Winter membership rates are lower, which suits people who would rather have the place to themselves in February.
A supervised youth programme runs on Saturday mornings from April to October for ages twelve and up, with a parent or guardian present throughout. Equipment is provided.
